Competitions between Transneft Western Siberia’s volunteer fire brigades (VFBs) have been concluded in Zelenogorsk (Krasnoyarsk Territory). Omsk Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate (RPD) has been announced the winner.
Teams from the Ishim, Omsk, Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk RPDs took part in the two-stage contest. In the theoretical examination, the commission checked the participants' knowledge of a wide range of relevant issues, including rules of fire safety at operational facilities, the use of primary firefighting equipment and methods of protecting operational facilities of the enterprise.
In the course of practical tests, the teams performed three tasks: combat deployment from a fire truck, a 4 x 100-metre firefighter relay race and overcoming a 100-metre obstacle course. The commission assessed not only the speed of completing the tasks, but also the correctness, coordination and precision of the actions performed.
The winners were announced as follows: first place and the Best Volunteer Fire Brigade Crew of Transneft Western Siberia title was awarded to Omsk RPD’s team; second and third places were taken by representatives of the Krasnoyarsk and Novosibirsk branches, respectively. The best performer in the individual 100-metre obstacle course competition was Aleksandr Petrs of the Novosibirsk RPD team.
The winners will represent Transneft Western Siberia in the final stage of the Transneft-wide competition in Yoshkar-Ola in August 2018.
Competitions between volunteer fire brigades are conducted with the purpose of improving the knowledge and skills of VFB members in ensuring fire safety, as well as strengthening theoretical and practical skills in extinguishing possible fires.
Roman Zyukov, Head of the Fire Safety Section of Transneft Western Siberia, said the company had 20 VFBs consisting of 432 people in total. Specialists regularly take part in firefighting training to extinguish simulated fires at operational facilities of the enterprise and at line portions of oil and petroleum products trunk pipelines. Every year Transneft Western Siberia allocates financial resources for purchasing the necessary modern personal protective equipment and special clothes for volunteer fire brigades. In all business units, equipped training classrooms have been created to increase VFB members' knowledge of fire safety theory and relevant best practices.
