Technical upgrading of telemetry system of Omsk-Irkutsk oil trunk pipeline (OTP) in the area of responsibility of Barabinsk line operation dispatcher station (LODS) of Omsk Regional Oil Pipeline Directorate (RPD) (a branch of Transneft Western Siberia, JSC) was completed. Total length of the telemetry section of the OTP`s linear part is 150 km.

Technical upgrading of the facility was conducted at the operating oil pipeline without stoppage of oil transportation. Scope of telemetry of the process section meet the requirements of the technical regulation on automation and telemetry of process equipment of onsite and linear facilities in oil and petroleum product trunk pipelines. Existing control and monitoring stations (CMSs) were replaced by new, completed with telemetry cabinets, existing telemetry cabinets were also replaced, new sealed pressure tap-off manholes were equipped with instrumentation kits at 11 stop valve units. Instrumental cabinets with impulse lines for pressure tap-off at pipeline clean-up and inspection gadget (PIG) traps, as well as chamber tightness, PIG crossover and gas monitoring sensors were installed.

As clarified by Dmitry Khrychev, Acting Chief Engineer of Transneft Western Siberia, works have been performed using domestic equipment having the required certificates and meeting all ecological, sanitation and hygiene standards and industrial safety requirements. Special attention was paid to provision of high-level fire safety of the facility due to its increased fire hazard. The existing six CMSs and five new CMSs were equipped with automatic fire alarm (FA) system.

The linear telemetry system is intended for control and management of process equipment at oil and petroleum product trunk pipelines (OTPs and PPTPs). It includes control and monitoring stations of stop valve units, cathodic protection stations, PIG traps, linear disconnectors and route ETL switches. Linear-part facilities are controlled and managed by dispatcher via supervisory control and data acquisition system of Omsk district control centre.

The main objective of technical upgrading of linear telemetry of OTPs and PPTPs is to ensure safe and accident-free operation of Transneft Western Siberia`s production facilities with the minimum number of operating and maintenance personnel and use of up-to-date microprocessor equipment.
